Murder in the Margins

Do not rearrange these circled letters. Read them from left to right, beginning with the top row and moving downward. They already spell the victim.

Location reminder: The circled victim letters all appear in one scene. That scene is the murder location—and it will be one of the two scenes where the weapon and killer appear together.

Why is this different?

Murder in the Margins uses the same broad case-solving idea but a different victim-reveal mechanic. The circled letters are placed in reading order rather than presented as an anagram.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are there two sets of solutions?

We updated the puzzle grids in Killer Letters and Murder, She Searched in August 2026. Books printed after the update have slightly different grids, so each printing gets its own solution set. Page 2 of your book tells you which one you have.

The solutions do not match my puzzles.

You are almost certainly in the other printing. Go back to page 2 of your book, check whether the line Printing 2 - Aug 2026 is there, and download the matching set. If it still does not line up, email us with the series, volume, and case number.

I bought my book on Amazon. Which set do I need?

Check page 2 the same way. Copies go out from several printers at different times, so the copyright page is a more reliable answer than where you bought it.

Do the victim decoders depend on my printing?

No. The decoders give you the shape of the answer and the first letters, and the victim is the same in both printings. Use whichever volume decoder matches your book.

Do the Victim Decoders reveal the answer?

No. Each entry shows only the number and length of the words, followed by an optional first-letter pattern. The completed victim is still found in your book's solution section.

Which cases are included?

Each volume decoder covers the 99 regular cases. The sealed final puzzle follows its own instructions inside the book.

Can I print the sheets?

Yes. They are formatted as standard US Letter PDFs and can also be viewed on a phone, tablet, or computer.

What if I still cannot solve a case?

Download the full solutions above for your printing, check the back of your book, or contact us with the series, volume, and case number.
